Supporting museums with dwindling public sector funding to explore and evaluate options for increasing commercial income.
Working in partnership with Tourism UK, we were appointed by the Museums and Libraries Association to support senior staff in four museums - Rye Art Gallery and Museum (plus Portsmouth Museums, The New Forest Centre and Bursledon Brickworks) to explore options for improving profitability of existing commercial activity and identify new commercial revenue streams. For Rye Museum and Art Gallery we developed plans to increase retail and event hire revenue and improve visitor numbers through better branding and communications.

Rye Art Gallery Trust benefited from a business development study by experts, including Iridescence, funded by Renaissance Museums. As Chair of the Trust, I was delighted to hear about ways to improve the business. Some of the recommendations chimed with our own ideas, but took on new relevance when endorsed by the study.
